Senior Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer – London

About the role

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer to join their London office. The role focuses on maximising cost recovery for legal aid matters, particularly in family law, and providing technical advice to fee‑earners and colleagues.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit legal aid bills, including fixed‑fee, exceptional case and high‑cost case claims.
• Manage CCMS submissions and ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements.
• Draft interim and final private client bills of costs and supporting documentation.
• Advise on cost recovery strategies, negotiate settlements and serve bills in line with procedural rules.
• Liaise with counsel, chambers and third parties regarding costs recovery.
• Monitor recoverable disbursements and oversee timely claim submission.
• Support file closure processes and provide training on costs best practice.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year experience as a Costs Draftsperson or Costs Lawyer.
• Strong background in legal aid costs, preferably within family law.
• Proven ability to prepare inter‑partes bills and high‑cost case claims.
• Excellent attention to detail, analytical and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
