About the role
As a Senior Critical Environment Technician in Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation team, you will ensure the reliability and performance of critical infrastructure that powers Microsoft’s datacenters worldwide. You will work hands‑on with electrical, mechanical and control systems, mentor junior technicians and coordinate incident response.
Key responsibilities
- Operate as a specialist in a major critical environment area (e.g., electrical, mechanical, controls, generators) and execute advanced tasks independently.
- Inspect, maintain and supervise HVAC, power, cooling and other facility equipment, identifying unsafe or abnormal conditions and escalating per policy.
- Use the internal CMMS to track assets, create and close work orders, and document maintenance activities.
- Lead onsite incident response teams for abnormal conditions, coordinating with other critical facilities professionals.
- Mentor and train junior CE technicians, sharing best practices and technical knowledge.
- Monitor equipment performance through telemetry and other platforms, ensuring optimal operation.
Required profile
- Several years of experience working with critical environment equipment in a datacenter or similar high‑availability environment.
- Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, HVAC and control systems.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions under pressure and lead incident response.
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with vendors, management and cross‑functional teams.
