Senior Data Engineer – Short-Term Power Markets

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Science & Technology team in London, supporting the Intraday Short-Term Power business. The role focuses on building and maintaining high‑performance, real‑time data pipelines that power systematic trading, analytics and risk management in a fast‑paced energy trading environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise real‑time data feeds from market data, grid operations, weather providers and internal trading systems.
• Build robust ETL/ELT pipelines capable of handling millions to billions of records daily.
• Ensure data availability, quality and performance to support signal generation, back‑testing and model validation workflows.
• Write highly optimised SQL queries and manage relational database structures.
• Collaborate closely with traders, data scientists and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable data solutions.

Required profile

• 5–10 years of data engineering experience, ideally within intraday short‑term power trading or similar real‑time energy markets.
• Strong understanding of systematic trading workflows and the ability to operate in a high‑frequency, intraday environment.
• Demonstrated experience handling large time‑series datasets and tight feedback loops.

Required skills

• Advanced SQL and relational database expertise.
• Proficiency in Python, Pandas and NumPy.
• Extensive experience building ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Exposure to AWS and Snowflake technologies.
• Familiarity with short‑term power market data sources such as EPEX, ENTSO‑E or Nord Pool.
