Senior Data Platform Engineer

About the role

DeepL is building the operating system for global communication and needs engineers who care about both user experience and system quality. You will own the end‑to‑end data platform, from architecture through production, enabling the whole company to work with data effectively.

Key responsibilities

• Build and evolve the Databricks‑based lakehouse, Kafka ingestion pipelines, and reusable data‑load tooling (dlt) to support growing data volume and diverse use cases.
• Design and implement AI‑powered connectors and workflow skills that expose data to humans and AI agents across the organization.
• Implement data observability, quality frameworks, monitoring and alerting to ensure trustworthy data at scale.
• Own platform infrastructure as code (Terraform/Terragrunt), CI/CD pipelines, access management, security configurations, and spend governance.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience building and operating cloud‑based data infrastructure with a reliability mindset.
• Strong Python programming skills and familiarity with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Platform‑product mindset focused on developer experience and proactive friction reduction.
• Clear cross‑functional communication and ability to incorporate feedback from data consumers.
