Senior Data Scientist – Imaging

About the role

Relation is a TechBio company building transformational medicines. As a Senior Data Scientist (Imaging) you will lead the development of generative and predictive models of cellular behaviour using high‑content imaging data.

Key responsibilities

• Curate training‑ready imaging datasets from cell‑painting and brightfield assays.
• Design and implement evaluation frameworks that separate biological signal from technical artefacts.
• Interpret foundation‑model behaviour on cellular images and feed insights back into model development.
• Partner with wet‑lab assay teams from plate design through data delivery to ensure analytical tractability.
• Link imaging readouts to single‑cell multi‑omics and perturbation data for multimodal analysis.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent industry experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer vision, biomedical engineering or a related field.
• Strong understanding of high‑content imaging modalities, including cell‑painting and brightfield, and ability to recognise artefacts.
• Experience designing evaluation frameworks for machine‑learning models on scientific image data.
• Proven ability to collaborate with wet‑lab scientists in a matrixed, interdisciplinary environment.

Required skills

• Python with NumPy, pandas (or polars), scikit‑learn and PyTorch.
• Deep‑learning techniques for image analysis.
• Handling terabyte‑scale imaging data and standard scientific formats.
• Familiarity with bio‑image tools such as CellProfiler, scikit‑image, ImageJ/Fiji.
