Senior Design Manager

About the role

The Senior Design Manager will lead the delivery of engineering solutions for a seven‑year water and wastewater capital programme in partnership with Southern Water. Based in Testwood, the role combines strategic design leadership with hands‑on support from need definition through to construction.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of Design Managers and discipline engineers to develop water technical solutions from initial need statement through optioneering, value engineering, detailed design and construction support.
• Ensure affordable, risk‑managed designs that meet budget and regulatory requirements, including CDM Regulations.
• Collaborate with clients, design teams, construction staff and supply‑chain partners to promote buildability and efficiency.
• Agree design budgets, monitor performance, forecast costs to completion and control design changes for cost efficiency.
• Prepare and maintain the Design Management Plan, Project Execution Plan and monthly status reports.
• Support continuous professional development through industry networking and conferences.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering technical projects in a design‑build environment.
• Background in the water treatment industry.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multi‑disciplinary design teams.
• Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
