Senior Ecologist – Environmental Consultancy (Newcastle)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Ecologist to join a progressive environmental consultancy in the North East. You will work on a varied portfolio of projects, from residential schemes to large‑scale habitat restoration, delivering ecological expertise from early planning through to post‑implementation management.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs) and Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs).
• Support Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments and develop mitigation, enhancement, and long‑term management plans.
• Conduct protected‑species surveys, including bats, great crested newts, birds and reptiles.
• Carry out habitat surveys, condition assessments and contribute to nature recovery initiatives.
• Produce high‑quality technical reports and liaise with multidisciplinary project teams.

Required profile

• Degree in Ecology or a related scientific discipline.
• Hands‑on field survey experience and solid knowledge of UK wildlife legislation.
• Strong written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Full UK driving licence and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
