Senior Finance Officer – Children’s Social Care

About the role

This temporary, full‑time position is based in Harrow Council and offers a hybrid working model. As a Senior Finance Officer you will support the Children’s Services directorate, providing high‑quality financial analysis, budgeting and strategic advice that directly impacts vulnerable children and families.

Key responsibilities

• Lead budget monitoring, forecasting and financial modelling for placements, early help, safeguarding and commissioning.
• Produce accurate financial reports, ensure compliance with council regulations and support budget holders.
• Advise senior managers on financial strategy, contribute to savings initiatives and service transformation.
• Collaborate with finance teams and Children’s Services across remote and on‑site settings.

Required profile

• Proven experience in Children’s Social Care finance within a UK local authority.
• Strong understanding of local government accounting, budget cycles and financial frameworks.
• Excellent communication skills, able to challenge and influence senior stakeholders.
