Senior Finance Officer

About the role

The Senior Finance Officer will provide specialist accountancy support and advice within a children social care and council environment. Working on a hybrid basis (2‑3 days onsite per week), the role offers a dynamic setting where financial expertise directly influences service delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, monitor and close budgets for assigned sections.
• Deliver professional financial advice and information to budget managers and senior finance staff.
• Produce financial and statistical returns, including grant claim submissions.
• Maintain and operate financial systems and related administration for specific service areas.
• Lead or contribute to improvement and matrix management projects as part of the finance division’s transformation agenda.

Required profile

• Experience working within children social care or local council finance.
• Strong understanding of public sector budgeting and financial reporting.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams and stakeholders.

Required skills

• Proficiency in standard financial systems used in the public sector.
• Knowledge of grant management and statistical reporting processes.
