Senior Finance & Project Finance Counsel (French Speaking) – Energy

About the role

Our client, a fast‑growing energy company based in London, is expanding its legal team. They are seeking a French‑speaking Senior Finance/Project Finance Counsel with 6‑12 years post‑qualification experience to support corporate and project work across the energy sector, including Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Provide and manage legal advice on acquisitions, disposals and corporate matters.
• Support energy projects (oil & gas, wind, solar, hydro, hydrogen) from development through finance.
• Draft, review and negotiate complex agreements such as share purchase, joint‑venture, offtake, construction and service contracts.
• Assist financing activities, including due diligence, loan documentation and security arrangements.
• Advise on compliance with local and international regulations, including environmental, health and safety standards.
• Liaise with government authorities and regulatory bodies.
• Handle contentious matters, including litigation and arbitration, when required.
• Collaborate with internal teams (Business Development, Renewables, Operations) and manage external counsel.
• Provide training and guidance to junior legal staff.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 6 years PQE.
• Experience in a major international law firm (UK, US or French) and/or cross‑border work in Africa.
• Fluency in English and French.
• Strong transactional background in corporate and/or project finance.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Extensive experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex cross‑border contracts.
• Solid understanding of corporate finance and project finance structures.
• Knowledge of energy sector legal issues (oil & gas, renewables) is advantageous.
