Senior Geotechnical Engineer – East West Rail Project

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join the East West Rail team in St Neots, Cambridgeshire. The role involves coordinating and managing ground investigation activities to support the delivery of high‑quality rail infrastructure. You will work closely with project managers, drilling suppliers, and the client’s Investigation Supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and programme ground investigation fieldwork with drilling suppliers.
• Track progress against the programme and audit borehole log quality and consistency.
• Facilitate safety inspections, audits and record near‑misses and incidents proactively.
• Identify problems early and collaborate with suppliers to implement pragmatic solutions.
• Support drill rig inspections and coordinate site access with the land access manager.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Earth Sciences, Geology or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience delivering site‑based geotechnical investigations.
• Proven ability to manage subcontractors and coordinate complex field programmes.
• Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel to sites as required.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AGS geotechnical data.
• Experience using Common Data Environment (CDE) systems.
