Senior HR Officer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior HR Officer to provide expert guidance across all HR functions within a public‑sector environment. The role will lead the recruitment unit, advise managers on policy, and drive HR initiatives that support the organisation’s strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the HR/Recruitment Unit, managing end‑to‑end recruitment and selection in line with force policy.
• Coordinate with the recruitment team on adverts, short‑listing, interviewing and onboarding.
• Provide advice on conditions of service to line managers and candidates.
• Act as the primary HR contact for staff, handling queries and issues.
• Support performance management for secondees and agency staff.
• Monitor contracts with recruitment agencies and fixed‑term posts, ensuring compliance.
• Assist in drafting and reviewing job descriptions.
• Manage a caseload of change management, disciplinary and grievance matters.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an HR Officer with strong knowledge of employee relations and HR policies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
• Experience managing a variety of HR issues, including change management.
