Senior Ledger Clerk/Payment Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Ledger Clerk/Payment Manager to lead our payment operations within a dynamic construction business. The role combines oversight of purchase and sales ledgers, team supervision and ensures accurate cash‑flow reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise a small ledger/payment team (2 staff) and provide cover during holidays.
• Process supplier, subcontractor and employee payments promptly and accurately.
• Validate invoices, certificates, valuations and payment schedules, ensuring compliance with CIS and internal controls.
• Maintain monthly reconciliations for suppliers and subcontractors.
• Oversee sales ledger accuracy, customer invoicing and debt monitoring.
• Support cash‑flow forecasting, month‑end, year‑end and audit activities.
• Produce aged creditor/debtor and payment reports.
• Liaise with commercial, project and procurement teams to resolve queries.
• Identify and support system improvements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in payments or accounts payable within the construction sector.
• Strong knowledge of CIS, retentions and construction valuations.
• High level of numerical accuracy and analytical ability.
• AAT qualification or equivalent experience.
