Senior Legal Counsel, Digital Assets and Payments

About the role

Monzo is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to support its payments business, with a focus on digital assets and emerging payment technologies. Reporting to the Director of Legal for Payments & Business Banking, you will join the Legal and Board Governance Collective and act as a legal business partner for product and engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with product managers and designers to provide legal advice on digital assets, crypto and new payment solutions.
• Interpret and apply UK regulatory requirements to ensure compliant product development.
• Develop efficient legal processes that enable rapid scaling while maintaining safety and compliance.
• Deliver training and knowledge‑sharing sessions on relevant laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with senior lawyers, engineers, risk, FinCrime and compliance professionals across the organisation.
• Support broader product collectives, including personal and business banking, with high‑quality legal guidance.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with substantial experience in payments, digital assets or fintech regulation.
• Deep understanding of the UK regulatory landscape for financial services.
• Proven ability to work with cross‑functional teams and senior stakeholders.
• Senior‑level experience with strong commercial insight.
