Senior Legal Counsel – Financial Services & Insurance

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join the in‑house legal team of a leading UK consumer brand. The role offers a broad commercial focus across financial services, insurance and consumer products, working closely with senior stakeholders on business‑critical projects.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate and advise on a wide range of regulated and non‑regulated commercial agreements.
• Provide legal advice on new products, business initiatives and strategic commercial projects for both B2B and B2C operations.
• Support regulated entities with day‑to‑day legal and regulatory matters.
• Collaborate with Risk and Compliance teams on FCA regulatory issues.
• Advise on insurance distribution, consumer credit and broader financial services regulation, including Consumer Duty requirements.
• Lead legal input into business projects and drive best practice and operational improvements.
• Build strong relationships with senior leadership and other stakeholders across the business.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with at least 5 years post‑qualification experience.
• Proven experience advising financial services and insurance businesses, either in‑house or in private practice.
• Comfortable drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts in regulated environments.
• Confident in advising on FCA regulation and related frameworks.
• Familiar with insurance distribution and consumer financial services products such as credit, loans or savings.
• Excellent communicator able to build credibility with senior stakeholders and work autonomously.
• Commercially focused, pragmatic and able to balance legal risk with business objectives.
