Job description
About the role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Manufacturing Engineer with a focus on electrical and cabling systems. You will lead the development, industrialisation and continuous improvement of complex electrical harness manufacturing from design release to full‑rate production, supporting both new product introductions and optimisation of existing lines in an aerospace and defence environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead manufacturing engineering for electrical harness and cabling assemblies across the product lifecycle.
- Support NPI activities: process development, tooling definition, work‑instruction creation and production readiness reviews.
- Design and implement efficient assembly processes including wire preparation, termination, crimping, soldering, braiding, shielding, potting, encapsulation, looming, routing and electrical testing.
- Translate engineering drawings into repeatable manufacturing methods and maintain process specifications, routings, SOPs, work instructions, PFMEA and control plans.
- Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives targeting cost reduction, yield improvement, scrap reduction, cycle‑time optimisation and right‑first‑time manufacturing.
- Provide technical support to resolve manufacturing and quality issues; conduct root‑cause investigations using 8D, RCA, fishbone and 5 Whys.
- Collaborate with Quality Engineering to ensure compliance with aerospace standards and support DFM/DFA reviews.
- Identify and implement tooling, fixture and process upgrades; participate in internal and external audits.
Required profile
- Proven senior‑level experience in electrical harness manufacturing within aerospace or defence.
- Hands‑on engineer who thrives in a fast‑paced, on‑site environment.
- Strong ability to work cross‑functionally with design, quality, supply chain and production teams.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and a commitment to manufacturing excellence.
Required skills
- Electrical harness assembly processes (wire preparation, termination, crimping, soldering, braiding, shielding, potting, encapsulation, looming, routing).
- Electrical testing and inspection.
- Process documentation: PFMEA, control plans, SOPs, work instructions.
- Root‑cause analysis techniques (8D, RCA, fishbone, 5 Whys).
- Tooling and fixture design for assembly lines.
- Knowledge of aerospace quality standards and DFM/DFA principles.
What we offer
- Competitive salary £55,000‑£70,000.
- Permanent contract with a 4‑day working week (Monday‑Thursday).
- Opportunity to work on cutting‑edge aerospace projects in a collaborative environment.
