Senior Pharmacy Technician – Pharmacy Prescribing Support

About the role

This permanent part‑time position (21.6 hours per week) is based at Barrhead Health Centre and forms a key part of the Pharmacy Prescribing Support team within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. The Senior Pharmacy Technician will lead pharmacy staff across the hub and 13 GP practices, helping to deliver safe, effective and person‑centred pharmacotherapy services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage pharmacy technicians and support staff in both hub and GP practice settings.
• Contribute to strategic planning, service improvement and the development of the pharmacotherapy service.
• Design and deliver training and education for GP practice teams, clinical staff and multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Identify prescribing interventions aligned with HSCP priorities and implement changes to improve safety, quality and cost‑effectiveness.
• Provide mentorship, leadership and professional guidance to junior team members.
• Support medicines reconciliation activities and participate in audit processes.
• Develop and update Good Practice Guides for medicines management.
• Conduct face‑to‑face medicine reviews with patients, offering education and advice.

Required profile

• Qualified Pharmacy Technician with substantial experience in primary‑care or community pharmacy settings.
• Demonstrated leadership ability and experience managing pharmacy teams.
• Strong collaborative skills to work with multidisciplinary teams across GP practices, community pharmacies, care homes and social‑care settings.
• Commitment to delivering evidence‑based, person‑centred care.
