Senior Portfolio Underwriter – Professional Indemnity

About the role

This newly created senior position sits within a fast‑growing professional indemnity division of a specialist insurer. You will own a portfolio of PI risks, influence trading performance and help shape the future of a direct insurance proposition serving SMEs and professional firms across the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Take full responsibility for underwriting decisions on a range of Professional Indemnity risks.
• Review referrals, provide technical guidance on complex cases and ensure sound risk assessment.
• Drive profitable growth through commercial judgement and portfolio management.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with underwriting, trading and senior leadership teams.
• Monitor portfolio performance, identify improvement opportunities and contribute to sustainable growth.
• Support process enhancements, customer experience initiatives and data‑driven business objectives.

Required profile

• Significant experience underwriting Professional Indemnity within an insurer or MGA.
• Proven ability to handle referral business and make complex underwriting decisions.
• Good understanding of portfolio performance, underwriting controls and risk management.
• Commercially minded with a balance of growth and profitability focus.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Collaborative attitude and willingness to contribute beyond day‑to‑day underwriting.
