Senior Project Manager (Construction)

About the role

The Senior Project Manager (Construction) role sits within the council's Portfolios, Programmes and Projects (PPP) Service, which delivers transformation, change and capital construction projects across the organisation. It is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term position, and the holder would lead one or more major capital projects such as new schools, expanded foster carer properties, refurbished children's homes, decarbonisation of crematoria, new harbour pontoons and bridge repairs.

The council is strengthening its professional construction function after significant team growth, and the post-holder will lead project teams, apply best practice and help ensure complex construction projects are delivered consistently and effectively.

Required profile

• Degree level qualification or equivalent, with advanced knowledge and practical application of a recognised project management methodology such as PRINCE2.
• Detailed understanding of the laws, regulations and standards for construction projects, including the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM).
• Ability to plan projects with complex intra- and inter-organisational dependencies and use those plans to deliver them.
• Experience in construction procurement, contract and supplier management.

Required skills

• Strong working knowledge of CDM regulations and site-based delivery practices.
• Effective coordination with contractors, designers and internal teams.
• Leadership of project teams and commercial judgement.
