Senior Project Officer – Kemble

About the role

The Senior Project Officer will lead the archaeological direction and site management of Cotswold Archaeology’s most prestigious fieldwork projects in Kemble. You will be responsible for delivering projects on time, within budget and to the highest quality and health‑and‑safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage delivery of projects, ensuring they meet time, budget, quality and H&S requirements.
• Supervise and develop Project Officers, Supervisors, archaeologists and trainees through training, coaching and performance reviews.
• Assure the quality of archaeological recording, compile archives and author reports to publication standard.
• Prepare risk assessments, maintain health‑and‑safety compliance and oversee vehicle and equipment deployment.
• Liaise with clients, local authorities and contractors, providing regular progress reports.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of archaeological practice across all British periods.
• Proven experience supervising large excavation and desk‑based projects.
• Ability to write reports to publication standard.
• Strong organisational, training and staff‑management skills.
• Good understanding of health‑and‑safety legislation and risk assessment.

Required skills

• Valid CSCS Health and Safety Card (or ability to pass CITB HS&E test).
• Full driving licence with willingness to operate 4x4s and vans.
