Senior Registered Nurse – Inpatient Ward (Orthopaedic/Surgical)

About the role

A leading private healthcare provider is looking for an experienced Senior Registered Nurse to join an established inpatient ward team in Crowborough. The role offers the chance to lead a high‑performing clinical team while delivering orthopaedic and surgical care to patients.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based nursing care throughout the patient journey.
• Lead the clinical team on shift, managing workloads, delegation and prioritisation.
• Deputise for the Ward Manager and ensure smooth running of shifts.
• Supervise, mentor and support junior and student nurses.
• Provide clinical support for patients with complex needs, including escalation and decision‑making.
• Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with professional standards.
• Contribute to audits, incident reviews, quality improvement and policy development.
• Promote infection prevention, safeguarding, risk management and governance practices.

Required profile

• NMC Registered Nurse (RGN) qualification with at least 2 years post‑registration experience.
• Previous orthopaedic or surgical nursing experience (essential).
• Recognised mentorship / Practice Supervisor / Practice Assessor qualification or equivalent.
• Experience leading a clinical team and coordinating shift operations.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and a patient‑centred approach.
