Senior Science Technician - Secondary School

About the role

Prospero Teaching is recruiting a Senior Science Technician for a vibrant secondary school in Taunton. This temp‑to‑perm position starts in September 2026 and offers the chance to lead a busy science department while supporting student learning through practical work.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and set up equipment, apparatus and materials for practical science lessons, assessments and examinations.
• Maintain, store safely and ready for reuse all laboratory equipment and resources.
• Manage stock levels, order supplies, audit inventories and ensure timely replenishment.
• Supervise and support the science technician team as required.
• Carry out minor repairs, maintenance and construction of apparatus.
• Assist with risk assessments and provide safety guidance to staff.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, including COSHH, and manage chemicals, hazardous materials and waste disposal.
• Support practical examinations and departmental enrichment events.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a school science department or laboratory environment.
• Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).
• Strong science background (GCSE/A‑Level or equivalent).
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with confidence in supervising others.
• Flexible, proactive and committed to supporting student learning.
