Senior Social Worker – Emergency Duty Team (EDT)

About the role
Wakefield Council is looking for an experienced Senior Social Worker to join its out‑of‑hours Emergency Duty Team (EDT). Working from the District Headquarters in Normanton, you will provide immediate safeguarding support for children, adults and families when standard services are closed.
Key responsibilities
- Respond to urgent emergency referrals and stabilise volatile situations.
- Monitor and act on the Social Care emergency inboxes during out‑of‑hours periods.
- Carry out planned, urgent visits on behalf of day‑team colleagues.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for both children and adults.
- Make definitive safeguarding decisions and implement safety plans until daytime services resume.
Required profile
- Minimum three years post‑qualifying experience, preferably in EDT or MASH settings.
- Registered with Social Work England and holding a recognised Social Work qualification.
- Ability to work independently, remain calm under pressure and make autonomous decisions.
- Willingness to work varied evening, weekend and overnight on‑call shifts.

- Competitive premium rate of £35.00 per hour.
