Senior Software Engineer - Core Marketing Platforms

About the role

FanDuel is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join one of its Core Marketing Platforms teams in Edinburgh. You will build and optimise high-performance microservices that power FanDuel's marketing ecosystem, including real-time customer communications, personalised promotions and targeted campaign delivery. The work focuses on scalable, event-driven systems that process large volumes of real-time data, within a modern microservices and event-driven architecture.

Key responsibilities

• Design highly scalable, event-driven systems and define the architecture of the future while also improving existing systems
• Build Martech solutions enhanced by AI, taking a long-term view of system capacity
• Simplify existing systems, such as consolidating redundant ones and updating outdated documentation
• Deliver secure, stable, testable and maintainable code on schedule, following best practices
• Take part in team design, scoping and prioritisation, and contribute to code reviews and support ticket reviews
• Coach and mentor other engineers, and help resolve complex problems
• Estimate stories and tasks, and take part in the on-call support rotation
• Document software clearly and keep up to date with market standards and open-source frameworks

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science or a related software engineering field, or equivalent practical experience
• Strong backend experience with Java
• Experience with high-volume systems and modern architectures, design patterns and cloud infrastructure
• Agile experience and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment

Required skills

• AWS and DevOps concepts such as IaC (Terraform)
• Event streaming technologies such as SNS/SQS or Kafka
• Relational and non-relational databases, messaging queues and concurrency
• Containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
• Testing concepts, test tools and integration of testing in the SDLC
