Software Engineer - Core Marketing Platforms
FanDuel · Edinburgh
Job description
About the role
FanDuel is looking for a Software Engineer to join one of its Core Marketing Platforms teams in Edinburgh. You will build and optimise high-performance microservices that power FanDuel's marketing ecosystem, covering real-time customer communications, personalised promotions and targeted campaign delivery. The work centres on scalable, event-driven systems that process large volumes of real-time data, within a modern microservices and event-driven architecture.
Key responsibilities
- Simplify existing systems, for example by consolidating redundant ones, removing unnecessary code and updating outdated documentation.
- Solve well-defined problems independently, seeking input from the wider team when needed.
- Translate technical designs into clean, tested code using appropriate technologies and best practices, delivered on schedule.
- Write secure, stable, testable and maintainable code with minimal defects.
- Take part in discussions on technical design, scoping and prioritisation, and surface risks and opportunities.
- Own parts of product and technology, becoming a subject matter expert, and write simple, extendable code following standards.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, team planning and support ticket reviews, and clearly document your software.
- Troubleshoot problems quickly, estimate stories and tasks, and take part in the on-call support rotation.
Required profile
- Degree in Computer Science or a related software engineering field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2+ years of relevant work experience.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to change.
Required skills
- Strong backend experience with Java.
- Understanding of AWS and DevOps concepts such as IaC (Terraform).
- Event streaming technologies such as SNS/SQS or Kafka.
- Relational and non-relational databases, messaging queues and concurrency.
- Modern architectures, design patterns, orchestration and containerisation, ideally Kubernetes.
- Testing concepts, test tools and integration of testing in the SDLC.
- Agile working style.
What we offer
- A great financial package including salary, bonus, pension, private healthcare, share save scheme, flexible working and holiday policy.
- Career pathways, a supportive manager, learning opportunities and 10% of your time dedicated to learning.
- A trusting, autonomous work environment.
