Senior Software Engineer – JavaScript (AI‑enhanced)

About the role

We are looking for a self‑motivated Senior Software Engineer to join the ScienceDirect team in London. You will work on modern web applications used by millions of researchers, leveraging both classic JavaScript expertise and AI‑assisted development tools to deliver high‑impact, scalable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate within a cross‑functional, agile product team to design and build responsive web applications.
• Develop intuitive, interactive, and visually appealing user interfaces using React.
• Partner with UX/UI designers to turn design concepts into functional features.
• Ensure applications are performant, accessible, and responsive across devices and browsers.
• Utilise AI‑assisted development tools to design, implement, refactor, and debug code.
• Critically evaluate AI‑generated output to maintain engineering and quality standards.
• Write well‑tested, documented, and peer‑reviewed code.
• Coordinate with Product Managers and QA to meet user and business requirements.
• Contribute to best practices such as testing, CI/CD, and code review.
• Support the growth of the London engineering team through knowledge sharing and recruitment activities.

Required profile

• Proven experience building frontend applications with React.
• Strong proficiency in Node.js and modern JavaScript.
• Collaborative mindset and ability to work in agile, cross‑functional teams.
• Comfort with experimenting using AI‑assisted development tools while maintaining code quality.
• Strong engineering judgement focused on maintainability and performance.
