Senior Structural Engineer – High‑Risk Building Projects

About the role
Bureau Veritas is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to work on high‑risk, large‑scale commercial projects across the Northwest and Midlands. The role provides direct interaction with the Building Safety Regulator and exposure to some of the UK’s most complex buildings.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the technical authority on structural compliance and stay ahead of industry developments.
- Support delivery of structural engineering services for a wide range of complex building types.
- Collaborate with HSE/BSR on Higher Risk Buildings under framework agreements.
- Provide expert advice to commercial clients on structural design and UK Building Regulations.
- Review structural assessments, drawings and calculations to ensure compliance.
- Build strong relationships with major design consultants, project stakeholders and internal teams.
- Maintain accurate project and inspection records.
- Contribute to internal and external training, sharing expertise with colleagues.
Required profile
- Degree (or equivalent) in Structural Engineering, preferably working towards Chartered status.
- Strong technical judgement with the ability to work independently.
- Growth mindset and willingness to take on increasingly complex work.
- Confidence in supporting and developing others.
- Strategic thinker who balances detail with broader project objectives.
- Solid understanding of commercial Building Control and structural safety.
Required skills
- Structural compliance assessment and review of calculations.
- Expertise in UK Building Regulations and structural design advice.
- Liaison with HSE/BSR on Higher Risk Buildings.
- Stakeholder relationship management with design consultants and clients.
- Accurate project and inspection record‑keeping.
