Senior Underwriter – Specialist Liability

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Underwriter to join our specialist liability team. The role focuses on complex, non‑standard casualty and liability risks and will help shape the portfolio’s strategy and performance. It offers the chance to work closely with brokers and internal stakeholders in a stable, profitable insurance business.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite a portfolio of specialist casualty and liability insurance risks, including complex and non‑standard cases.
• Take ownership of larger, technically challenging underwriting decisions.
• Act as a senior referral point on coverage, pricing, terms and risk selection.
• Work closely with brokers and external stakeholders to improve submission quality.
• Contribute to portfolio management, including pricing, claims trends and retention analysis.
• Support underwriting strategy, product refinement and governance.
• Assist in policy wording development and coverage enhancements.
• Share technical expertise and mentor junior underwriters.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Senior Underwriter specialising in liability insurance, or a commercial underwriter with a strong liability background.
• Demonstrated ability to make technical underwriting decisions and influence portfolio performance.
• Strong analytical skills and understanding of pricing, claims trends and risk selection.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with brokers and internal teams.
• Commitment to raising underwriting standards and supporting strategic growth.
