Server Engineer – SC Cleared (Windows, PowerShell, VMware)

About the role

We are seeking a Server Engineer with active SC clearance to join a leading financial services organisation in central London. The role involves maintaining and evolving a critical Windows Server environment, automating tasks with PowerShell and supporting the VMware infrastructure. You will work as part of a collaborative infrastructure team, contributing to upgrades and transformation projects.

Key responsibilities

• Build, configure, deploy, maintain and decommission physical and virtual Windows Servers.
• Manage enterprise Microsoft Windows Server services, ensuring high availability, security and performance.
• Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate server administration.
• Administer core Microsoft technologies such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy.
• Support and maintain VMware vSphere (and optionally Hyper‑V) infrastructure.
• Perform Windows Server patching, upgrades, security hardening and vulnerability remediation.
• Investigate and resolve server incidents, providing root‑cause analysis.
• Participate in infrastructure projects including migrations, upgrades and refreshes.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and follow ITIL service management processes.
• Take part in an on‑call rota and occasional out‑of‑hours maintenance.

Required profile

• Active SC clearance (mandatory).
• Proven experience as a Server Engineer or Windows Infrastructure Engineer in an enterprise setting.
• Hands‑on experience building, deploying and decommissioning both physical and virtual servers.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities for critical server infrastructure.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
