Site Civil Engineer – Reading & Thames Water Region

About the role
Trant Engineering is seeking a Site Civil Engineer to lead the delivery of civil works for water and wastewater projects across the Reading and Thames Water region. You will be responsible for ensuring that all civil structures, earthworks and associated infrastructure are completed safely, on schedule and to the required quality standards.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise and inspect civil works including earthworks, foundations, drainage, retaining structures, concrete and steel structures.
- Review and interpret civil engineering drawings, specifications, method statements and construction programmes.
- Support setting‑out and verification of civil works on site and resolve technical issues or design discrepancies.
- Promote and enforce safe systems of work, conduct risk assessments and monitor health, safety and environmental compliance.
- Maintain accurate site records such as daily logs, inspection reports and as‑built documentation.
- Liaise with project managers, design teams and subcontractors to ensure programme adherence and support commissioning and handover.
Required profile
- Site safety certification (e.g., CSCS) or willingness to obtain.
- Practical site‑based civil engineering experience covering earthworks, drainage, foundations and setting‑out.
- Experience reading and interpreting civil drawings, specifications and method statements.
- Proven ability to coordinate and supervise subcontractors and site teams.
- Experience working to health, safety, quality and environmental standards on construction sites.
- Desirable: NVQ/Degree in Civil Engineering, formal site‑management training, familiarity with water‑sector regulations and experience in water or wastewater infrastructure projects.
