Software Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure

About the role

Join OpenAI’s Applications Engineering team to design, build, and operate the core cloud infrastructure that powers products like ChatGPT and the API. You will work on Kubernetes clusters, deployment pipelines, networking, and cloud abstractions, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build development and production platforms that enable reliable, secure, and scalable product delivery.
• Ensure the infrastructure can scale to the next order of magnitude and support rapid product iteration.
• Participate in on‑call rotations to respond to critical incidents and maintain system reliability.
• Contribute to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture that encourages radical candor and challenges groupthink.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience building core infrastructure.
• Hands‑on experience operating orchestration systems such as Kubernetes at scale.
• Experience creating abstractions over cloud platforms.
• Demonstrated pride in building and operating scalable, reliable, and secure systems.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity and rapid change.
