Sole In-House Legal Counsel

About the role

This interim position offers an experienced solicitor the chance to act as the sole in‑house legal adviser for a leading organisation operating in a highly regulated sector. You will support senior stakeholders on commercial, corporate and regulatory matters while working autonomously on a 3‑6 month contract.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on commercial contracts, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.
• Draft, review and negotiate customer, supplier, procurement and service agreements.
• Lead company secretarial duties and ensure statutory obligations are met.
• Advise on legal risk and support the implementation of risk‑management processes.
• Manage disputes, litigation and coordinate with external counsel as required.
• Support strategic projects such as acquisitions, restructurings and other corporate initiatives.
• Develop and improve legal templates, policies and processes for the business.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with at least 7 years post‑qualification experience.
• Strong background in corporate and commercial law, including complex contract negotiation.
• Experience with company secretarial and corporate governance matters.
• Proven ability to manage disputes and litigation, either directly or with external counsel.
• Previous in‑house experience or a history of operating as a standalone legal adviser is advantageous.
