Specialist Clinical Pharmacist – Infectious Diseases

About the role

This is a newly created, two‑year fixed‑term position for a motivated pharmacist to specialise in infectious diseases within the Regional Infectious Diseases Unit at Western General Hospital. You will deliver high‑quality pharmaceutical care across inpatient wards, outpatient HIV/ID clinics and the OPAT service while working closely with a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality pharmaceutical care to patients within the Regional Infectious Diseases Unit (RIDU).
• Provide service across inpatient wards, outpatient HIV/ID clinics and OPAT on a rotational basis.
• Collaborate with infectious diseases clinicians, clinical nurse specialists, pharmacists and pharmacy support staff.
• Support and develop other members of the pharmacy team.
• Engage in personal and professional development initiatives aligned with the Advanced Practice Framework.
• Contribute to pharmacy service development and delivery, addressing site capacity and patient flow challenges, including OPAT.

Required profile

• Master of Pharmacy degree (or equivalent) and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
• Completed training or competence mapped to the RPS Post‑Registration Foundation Pharmacist Curriculum.
• Independent prescriber qualification is desirable, or willingness to undertake training.
• Experience influencing prescribing and optimising patient care through clinical knowledge.
• Strong patient‑focused approach and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills for acute medical decision‑making.
• Proactive attitude with commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
