Specialist Doctor in Medicine – Lorn & Islands Hospital

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Specialist Doctor in Medicine to join the senior medical team at Lorn & Islands Hospital in Oban, Scotland. The role can be full‑time (1 WTE) or part‑time, based on 10 programmed activities per week, and replaces a retiring consultant.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality inpatient and outpatient care across general medicine, supporting existing specialisms such as elderly care, renal, cardiology and acute medicine.
• Deliver outpatient clinics in Oban and satellite sites (Lochgilphead, Campbeltown, Mull).
• Teach and mentor undergraduate medical students and resident doctors.
• Collaborate with advanced practice nurses, clinical nurse specialists and multidisciplinary teams.
• Participate in on‑call rotas and contribute to service development.

Required profile

• Broad experience in General Medicine, preferably at a senior level and with UK training background.
• Strong communication, problem‑solving and teamwork abilities.
• Interest in developing a specialist focus that complements current consultant services.
• Commitment to teaching and supporting junior staff.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and management in General Medicine.
• Experience with outpatient clinic delivery.
• Teaching and supervision of medical trainees.
