Specialist Tutor for ASC/PDA Year 7 Student

About the role

Prospero Teaching is looking for an experienced, patient tutor to support a Year 7 student who has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and is currently unable to attend school due to significant anxiety linked to Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and a Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile. The role starts with one hour per day, Monday‑Friday, and may expand to around ten hours weekly as the relationship develops.

Key responsibilities

• Build a trusting, low‑pressure relationship with the student.
• Deliver personalised, flexible learning sessions at the student’s home.
• Adapt teaching methods to the student’s anxiety‑based avoidance and dyslexia.
• Support gradual re‑engagement with school‑based learning.
• Maintain clear records of progress and any concerns.

Required profile

• Minimum six months experience working with SEN or special‑education students.
• Understanding of anxiety‑related school avoidance and ASC/PDA characteristics.
• Patient, empathetic, and able to adjust approaches quickly.
• Enhanced DBS clearance or willingness to obtain one.

Required skills

• Experience in one‑to‑one tutoring or mentoring.
• Knowledge of strategies for dyslexia support.
• Ability to create a calm, relationship‑led learning environment.
