Speech and Language Therapist – Band 6/7 (Maternity Cover)

About the role

We are seeking a passionate Speech and Language Therapist to join an outstanding specialist college in Hillingdon on a maternity‑cover basis. You will work with young adults (16+) who have learning disabilities, autism and complex communication needs, helping them develop the skills required for independence and successful transition beyond education.

Key responsibilities

• Assess communication, eating and drinking needs using formal and informal tools.
• Manage an independent clinical caseload and deliver both universal and individual therapy interventions.
• Support students through Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies.
• Coach, mentor and train teaching and support staff.
• Collaborate with families, schools, employers and external professionals to facilitate smooth transitions.
• Promote independence, inclusion and positive outcomes for every learner.

Required profile

• Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent) and HCPC registration.
• Eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
• Experience supporting young people with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs.
• Proven experience with communication assessments, AAC and eating/drinking support.

Required skills

• Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) proficiency.
