Staff Optimization Consultant

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, is hiring a Staff Optimization Consultant for its London office. You will improve payment performance by analysing merchant data, transaction trends and industry benchmarks, and act as a strategic advisor to enterprise merchants. You will work from the London office three days a week.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse merchant data, transaction trends and industry benchmarks to find high-impact payment performance improvements.
• Build and refine payment optimisation methodologies and playbooks.
• Lead deep-dive conversations with enterprise merchants and advise them on transaction outcomes.
• Partner with Product, Engineering and Data Science on optimisation levers, including AI- and machine-learning-powered smart routing and cost reduction.
• Turn merchant feedback into product roadmap recommendations.
• Enable Sales and Account Management teams with optimisation knowledge, tools and training.
• Build relationships with card issuers and payment networks to improve the end-to-end payment experience.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in payments, with strong knowledge of e-commerce, card-based processing and payment optimisation.
• Strong understanding of card network rules, local payment methods and regulations such as PSD2 and PSD3.
• Experience turning complex analysis into clear recommendations for technical and commercial audiences.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging enterprise clients and senior stakeholders.
• Cross-functional experience with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Sales and Account Management.
• Self-directed, able to make progress in ambiguous, fast-moving environments; preferred: experience with payment optimisation, smart routing, fraud mitigation or transaction success rate improvement.

Required skills

• Preferred: BI and data platforms such as Looker, Power BI, Tableau or Databricks.
• Preferred: experience engaging directly with card issuers, payment networks or other global payments stakeholders.
• Preferred: experience creating standardised methodologies, playbooks or enablement programmes for commercial teams.
