About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for its New Products team. The Founders' Lab turns ambitious concepts into functional software and new product lines, working across product and engineering to validate ideas quickly and build scalable products. The role works from the London office with a hybrid working model.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the CEO and global leadership to turn strategic visions and emerging AI capabilities into market-ready software.
• Lead the technical evaluation and implementation of fintech AI technologies and intelligent workflows.
• Make pragmatic architectural decisions by prototyping quickly, then structuring solutions for handover and scale.
• Own delivery across the stack, steering backend architecture and systems design from data models to user interfaces.
• Establish the technical foundations for incubation projects and help transition them into standalone product lines.

Required profile

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including staff-level work or leading technical direction in greenfield environments.
• Strong product sense: cares about user experience, business impact and why a product is built, not just the code.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and able to map technical specifications from high-level direction.
• Pragmatic, resourceful and self-directed, with clear communication skills for deep technical discussions and executive presentations.
• Preferred: experience with Generative AI, LLMs or automated agent workflows; fintech, payments, multi-currency ledgering or regulated financial systems; prior experience as a founding engineer, R&D technical lead or technical co-founder.
