Structural Integrity Discipline Lead Engineer

About the role

Join Alstom in Derby as a Structural Integrity Discipline Lead Engineer, where you will apply your expertise to develop cutting‑edge rail vehicle structures and assess existing designs. You will be responsible for the structural analysis of carbody shells and related equipment, ensuring they meet functional and safety requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop design solutions that satisfy structural requirements of carbody and vehicle equipment.
• Set up and run Finite Element (FE) models, analyse results, modify designs and produce technical reports.
• Derive load cases for carbody, interior and underframe components.
• Plan and execute structural calculation activities in line with standards and customer specifications.
• Evaluate supplier calculations and test results, and communicate progress to project teams.
• Write specifications, oversee test programmes, and manage work across sites and subcontractors.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience with Finite Element analysis for railway products.
• Strong understanding of structural mechanics and fatigue assessment methods.
• Practical mechanical engineering experience beyond pure structural analysis, such as design, dynamics or testing.

Required skills

• Finite Element analysis packages: Hyperworks, Ansys, Patran/Nastran, Ideas, Abaqus.
• CAD tools: CATIA, Pro Engineer.
