Summer Internship - Retail, Business and Customer Banking, Manchester

About the role

Barclays is offering a 10-week summer internship in its Retail, Business and Customer Banking division in Manchester. The programme gives students in their penultimate year of university, graduating in 2028, hands-on experience in real projects, mentorship and networking. The internship is the first step toward a return offer to the graduate programme, which will be based in the same location.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in day-to-day activities of the retail banking division, helping senior colleagues make informed decisions, develop new products and services and spot new market opportunities.
• Run small research projects and prepare presentations and reports, then work with senior management to put research findings into practice.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on business initiatives and take part in training and development programmes.
• Identify opportunities, develop business cases and manage the launch of new retail banking products and services.
• Manage client relationships and provide customer service support, including answering product questions, processing transactions and resolving complaints, under steadily decreasing supervision.
• Develop and run financial models and strategies used in retail banking decisions.
• Train and mentor junior colleagues.

Required profile

• Penultimate year of university, graduating in 2028.
• Enthusiasm, drive and a solutions-focused mindset that puts clients first.
• Visa sponsorship is accepted; successful applicants who cannot get a skilled worker visa must have their own right to work in the UK from June to August 2027.
