Tax Reserves Manager – Finance Team

About the role

We are looking for a Tax Reserves Manager to join the Finance team in Belfast. The role sits within the Partners' Affairs and Tax (PAT) team and supports the Head of International Tax in managing global partner tax reserves for A&O Shearman.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a detailed understanding of tax systems across the firm’s territories and set up tax reserves in GBP and local currencies for equity and employee/consultant partners.
• Reconcile and release residual balances, review tax equalisation arrangements, and maintain deferred tax control accounts.
• Coordinate UK and international tax teams to produce a consolidated view of partners’ tax reserve positions.
• Review and improve existing processes in response to business changes and legislative developments.
• Lead the design of processes for new offices and support year‑end tax reserve calculations and disclosures.
• Promote technology solutions, including AI and automation, to increase efficiency in the reserving process.
• Communicate with partners, CFOs, and external advisors, and coordinate junior team members in London and Belfast.

Required profile

• Strong General Ledger accounting background with solid numeric skills.
• ACA or equivalent accounting qualification.
• Tax qualification such as ADIT or CTA is desirable.
• Personal or corporate tax experience at manager level.
• Collaborative approach with ability to build relationships across global teams.
