Teaching Assistant - ASD Resource Base (EYFS)

About the role
We are seeking a compassionate Teaching Assistant to join the specialist EYFS Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Resource Base at Brent Primary School. You will support a small group of six young children with autism, working within a purpose‑built unit attached to the mainstream school.
Key responsibilities
- Provide day‑to‑day support for six ASD pupils, ensuring a safe and structured learning environment.
- Deliver learning activities planned by the EYFS Lead, adapting them to each child's communication, sensory and developmental needs.
- Assist with transitions, personal care, sensory regulation and daily routines.
- Apply positive behaviour strategies and maintain consistency to help children feel secure.
- Build strong relationships with pupils, parents and the wider school team.
Required profile
- Patient, nurturing, resilient and proactive.
- Experience supporting children with autism, preferably in EYFS, SEND or specialist settings.
- Comfortable working as part of a close‑knit team and following senior guidance.
- Calm under pressure and able to respond consistently to challenging behaviour.
- Passionate about fostering confidence, independence and a love of learning.
Required skills
- Knowledge of sensory regulation techniques.
- Familiarity with visual supports and communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton or Attention Autism (desirable).
