Teaching Assistant – SEMH Specialist (Esher)

About the role

This position is for a Teaching Assistant in a brand‑new specialist SEMH school opening in Esher. You will join the founding team and help create a therapeutic, relationship‑focused learning environment for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEMH and additional learning needs to access the curriculum.
• Build trusting relationships that encourage confidence, resilience and engagement.
• Assist with emotional regulation, behaviour support and the implementation of therapeutic strategies.
• Promote independence, social development and positive routines.
• Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff and therapeutic professionals to maintain a safe, inclusive classroom.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people, preferably in education, care or youth‑work settings.
• Genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs.
• Patience, empathy and a calm, positive approach.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Resilience and adaptability in challenging situations.

Required skills

• No specific technical skills required.
