Teaching Assistant – SEMH Specialist (Esher)

About the role
This position is for a Teaching Assistant in a brand‑new specialist SEMH school opening in Esher. You will join the founding team and help create a therapeutic, relationship‑focused learning environment for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.
Key responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEMH and additional learning needs to access the curriculum.
- Build trusting relationships that encourage confidence, resilience and engagement.
- Assist with emotional regulation, behaviour support and the implementation of therapeutic strategies.
- Promote independence, social development and positive routines.
- Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff and therapeutic professionals to maintain a safe, inclusive classroom.
Required profile
- Experience working with children or young people, preferably in education, care or youth‑work settings.
- Genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs.
- Patience, empathy and a calm, positive approach.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
- Resilience and adaptability in challenging situations.
Required skills
- No specific technical skills required.
