Teaching Assistant – SEN & SEMH Support (North London)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join an outstanding independent secondary school in North London. You will work primarily with students aged 11‑18 who have special educational needs, focusing on social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group academic support for SEN students.
• Promote a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere and deliver emotional support as needed.
• Implement behaviour‑management strategies and positive reinforcement techniques.
• Assist with lesson planning, delivery and classroom resources.
• Follow safeguarding policies to ensure student safety and well‑being.

Required profile

• Right to work in the UK and a clear, up‑to‑date DBS check.
• Previous experience as a teaching assistant, preferably with SEMH and ASD pupils.
• Patient, proactive attitude with the ability to work under pressure.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SEMH and ASD support strategies.
• Understanding of behaviour‑management and positive reinforcement techniques.
