Team Manager – Cared for Children (Social Work)

About the role

The Team Manager will lead the Cared for Children team for Bury Council, providing robust supervision, coaching and development for a group of social workers and practitioners. The role focuses on delivering child‑centred practice that promotes permanence, stability and positive life chances for children in care.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise, coach and develop a team of social workers and practitioners.
• Quality assure care planning, pathway planning, risk assessments and safety planning.
• Lead practice with children and young people who have complex needs, trauma, exploitation risks or challenging behaviours.
• Ensure effective safeguarding responses, including Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE), Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and Contextual Safeguarding.
• Collaborate with partner agencies, carers, education providers and health professionals to deliver coordinated support.
• Monitor performance, statutory compliance and service standards across the team.

Required profile

• Qualified and experienced social work leader with a strong track record in children’s social care.
• Excellent decision‑making skills and ability to support staff working with complex young people and families.
• Sound knowledge of children’s legislation, safeguarding and statutory guidance.
• Understanding of CCE, CSE and Contextual Safeguarding approaches.
