Test & Repair Technician

About the role
The Test & Repair Technician will join a fast‑moving electronics manufacturing site in Milton Park, Abingdon. You will provide first‑line technical support, diagnose failures to component level and help maintain high‑quality production output.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain deep knowledge of products and manufacturing processes.
- Triage and repair units to component level, providing first‑line support across all product ranges.
- Investigate production test failures, drive root‑cause analysis and support permanent corrective actions.
- Maintain, calibrate and commission assembly and test equipment according to planned schedules.
- Analyse production data (test failures, rework trends, downtime) to identify improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to continuous‑improvement projects using tools such as 5 Whys, Ishikawa and 8D.
- Support the introduction of new products and process changes, ensuring smooth transition to production.
- Create clear technical reports on product and process issues.
- Mentor apprentice technicians and production operators, promoting skill development on the shop floor.
- Ensure safe working practices, including ESD control, in line with health‑and‑safety policies.
Required profile
- GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) plus HNC or similar engineering qualification.
- 3‑5 years experience in electronics manufacturing, test or repair environments.
- Strong fault‑finding capability to component level on electronic assemblies.
- Ability to read and interpret BOMs, circuit diagrams, schematics and technical documentation.
- Good electro‑mechanical knowledge, supported by qualification or equivalent experience.
- Experience with production test equipment and automated test environments.
- Familiarity with Lean tools (5S, process mapping) and structured problem‑solving techniques.
- Background in ISO 9001 or regulated manufacturing settings.
- Confident soldering and rework skills.
- Strong organisational ability and clear written and verbal communication.
