Trade Counter Assistant (Temporary)

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Trade Counter Assistant to join our busy Bedford branch on a temporary basis. You will work Monday to Friday, 8:00 am‑5:00 pm, delivering excellent customer service and supporting the smooth operation of the trade counter and warehouse.

Key responsibilities

• Provide friendly, accurate service to customers, handling orders, quotations and enquiries.
• Process transactions in SAP, including order entry, stock management, invoicing and cash handling.
• Maintain appropriate stock levels on the shop floor and ensure products are readily available.
• Assist with receiving, checking and booking stock, resolving discrepancies or damaged goods.
• Keep the trade counter and warehouse organised, clean and compliant with health & safety standards.
• Support timely customer deliveries and prepare accurate quotations.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a trade counter, builders' merchant, warehouse or customer‑service environment (preferred).
• Strong communication skills and a customer‑focused attitude.
• Good organisational ability with attention to detail.
• Basic IT competence; familiarity with SAP or similar systems is advantageous.
