Trainee Accountant – Finance Trainee Scheme

About the role

We are seeking a motivated trainee accountant to join Lancashire County Council’s Finance Trainee Scheme. Over a three‑year fixed‑term you will rotate through finance and audit teams, gaining a solid foundation in public‑sector accounting while working towards the CIPFA Professional Accountancy Qualification.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing financial reports and statutory statements.
• Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support decision‑making.
• Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
• Collaborate with various departments to ensure accurate financial data.
• Contribute to day‑to‑day finance operations and special projects.

Required profile

• Recent graduate (minimum 2:2) in any discipline, preferably Maths, Finance, Business or related.
• AAT qualification (partial or full) or equivalent knowledge.
• Strong willingness to learn and develop professionally.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of accounting principles.
• Ability to work with financial data and spreadsheets.
