Trainee Transport Planner – 8‑month Apprenticeship

About the role

Gregory Distribution Group is seeking a motivated Trainee Transport Planner to join its Transport Operations team in Bristol. This 8‑month Level 2 Traffic Operator Apprenticeship provides structured online learning, on‑the‑job experience, and the chance to progress towards a Level 3 CILT Transport Management qualification.

Key responsibilities

• Support planning and organisation of nationwide deliveries and collections.
• Plan loads using articulated vehicles to maximise service efficiency.
• Manage trailer movements and coordinate with warehouse teams and shunters.
• Monitor delivery performance, vehicle utilisation and revenue KPIs.
• Communicate collection times and delivery bookings with customers and colleagues.
• Attend operational meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate records in internal systems and update the Transport Management System (TMS).

Required profile

• Strong communication and organisational abilities.
• Attention to detail and good geographical knowledge of the UK.
• Ability to work to deadlines, manage changing priorities and work both independently and as part of a team.
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.
• Commitment to study and pass the Level 2 Traffic Operator Apprenticeship.
